“Did You Get to Go to Bi-District Training Day?”
For those of us that attended our recent Bi-District Training Day, I’m sure you would agree that Dr. Joe Daniels, Sharon, Keiko, Floris UMC, and all our presenters did an outstanding job in delivering another top-notch training event – thanks to all! They all deserve a “shout-out” (like the one Wyley Neal got from Dr. Daniels)! Now the questions become: What am I going to do as a result of this experience? What is God expecting of me? How am I to use this information to further my ministry efforts for the transformation of the world? Let me offer some suggestions … whether you went to the training or not.
What am I going to do as a result of this experience? Some of you took some great notes – where are those notes now? Some of you got terrific handouts or website references – can you still find them? Make sure that you share the information with the appropriate ministries in your church – and for those of you that didn’t go to training – ask those that went, “What’s new and what did you learn or want to share?”
What is God expecting of me? Probably some of you were moved by Dr. Daniels’ keynote address; or maybe, you were challenged by his teaching or his latest book, “Walking with Nehemiah – Your Community is Your Congregation.” Did you get any ideas for a new ministry or possibly a revision to an existing ministry at your church? Who do you talk to now? Don’t just show up at the next Church Council meeting and expect everyone to buy in to your great ideas! Talk to your pastor and some key church leaders to get their tips and planning strategy on how to start a ministry or re-energize an existing one.
How am I to use this information to further my ministry efforts for the transformation of the world? Hopefully while you were at the training events, you picked up on our Conference, Bi-District, and District focus areas – new faith communities, lay servant ministries, community outreach & mission, small groups, prayer covenant congregations, and discipleship circles. Once again, not to worry if you didn’t attend the training – all of this information is on the Conference website www.vaumc.org, our Bi-District website www.novaumc.org, our monthly E-Newsletter, the Virginia Advocate magazine, and the weekly E-Advocate insert for local church bulletins.
